Hi. I’m Mariah.
I’m looking forward to meeting you! I’m the owner and counselor at Ardent (though I am hoping to grow the practice soon!). I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health Service Provider and a PhD student, and I have spent most of my decade-long career addressing trauma, ADHD and neurodivergence, anxiety, and many others mental health concerns. I also seek to support marginalized people, especially LGBTQ+ individuals.
I also have celiac disease. I understand firsthand how challenging it can be to live with a celiac disease diagnosis (I was diagnosed in 2019), and I want to support others who live with limiting autoimmune issues. I try to stay well-read regarding the ways that celiac disease can impact mental and physical health for clients and for myself.
As for research, I’m enjoying exploring parasocial relationships in media. It’s part of my dissertation topic, and something that I feel gets overlooked in the mental health profession. Being a fan and connecting with media can be fun, and it can be something that brings up strong emotions and connections. Let’s talk about it!
Because of the nature of teletherapy, interruptions happen. I try to mitigate those where I can; however, you might see some guests show up to sessions. Mocha, my dog, and Stormie, my cat, will occasionally visit. They are not licensed, but they are cute.
